A Meaningful Milestone for Taiwan’s Cultural Diversity

Introduction

The ICME 2026 Annual Conference will be held in Taiwan in October 2026. This gathering marks the first ICME annual conference convened in the Asia-Pacific region in nearly two decades. The conference provides an important opportunity for the global ethnographic museum community to engage in dialogue on contemporary challenges and future directions.

Call for Papers

The ICME 2026 conference welcomes contributions from museum professionals,researchers,and practitioners whose work relates to ethnographic museums,an-thropology,world cultures,and related fields.Proposals may address issues includ-ing coloniality,indigeneity,diversity,equality,social justice,and evolving museum practices.

Proposal Formats

Participants are invited to submit proposals in the following formats
  • Paper presentations

    (max. 15 minutes)
  • Short videos

  • Digital posters

  • Ignite talks

    (highlight sessions)
* Proposals should not exceed 300 words.

Programme

Recovery represents the active retrieval of knowledge, memories, and cultural expressions that have been lost, archived, or margin-alized. Regeneration refers to the renewal and transformation of that knowledge into vibrant living cultures.
Together, recovery and regeneration create pathways for cultural survival, resilience, and innovation.

    Museum visits and professional exchange in Central Taiwan
  • 10/20-22
    Conference sessions and meetings in southern Taiwan
  • 10/23-24
    Visits and cultural exchange with Indigenous and local communities in eastern Taiwan

Registration

Registration will open after proposal acceptance is announced. Participants will be able to register through the official conference website.
